Thomas Bannan

Thomas Bannan is a Lecturer in Atmospheric Sciences at the University of Manchester's Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences. His research focuses on atmospheric chemistry, particularly trace gas measurements and aerosol formation processes. Bannan contributes to the Manchester Environmental Research Institute and Healthier Futures research beacon.

His work investigates the chemical processes governing atmospheric composition, including gas-phase urea in marine environments, Criegee intermediate oligomerization, and secondary organic aerosol formation from biogenic and anthropogenic sources. Bannan employs advanced measurement techniques such as chemical ionization mass spectrometry and participates in international collaborations including the North Atlantic Climate System Integrated Study.

Bannan co-founded Urban 360, a spin-out focused on environmental monitoring solutions. His research addresses UN Sustainable Development Goals related to climate action and environmental sustainability.
