Thomas B. Hildebrandt

Prof. Dr. Thomas B. Hildebrandt is Head of the Department of Reproductive Management at the Leibniz Institute for Zoo and Wildlife Research (IZW) and a University Professor of Wildlife Reproduction Medicine at the Freie Universität Berlin. He is also an Honorary Professorial Fellow in Life Sciences at the University of Melbourne, Australia.

His research focuses on reproductive biology and assisted reproduction in large mammals such as elephants, rhinos, big cats, and pandas. He has published over 153 articles, authored 24 book chapters, and holds five patents. A passionate science communicator, he has presented at international conferences and on the BBC.

• Professional Memberships: Member of numerous scientific societies, Research Associate of the Smithsonian Institution, Fellow of the Zoological Society of San Diego Zoo, Conservation Fellow of the Zoological Society London, and Senior Advisor for the Panda Base Academic Committee.

He has delivered 212 lectures globally, including 50 plenary talks, and contributes to conservation through organizations like IUCN and EAZA.
