Dr. Stuart Patterson is a Senior Lecturer in Wild Animal Health and Associate Dean for Postgraduate Teaching and Learning at the Royal Veterinary College (RVC). His academic appointments include pathway leader for the BSc/MSci Biological Sciences (Wildlife Health Sciences) and leadership of the zoo tracking rotation for final year veterinary students.
Dr. Patterson's research focuses on the intersection of disease processes and wildlife conservation, particularly examining how disease dynamics change as populations become fragmented. His work spans multiple areas including tuberculosis epidemiology in meerkats, wildlife anesthesia safety, and retrospective morbidity studies in captive species.
His recent publications demonstrate expertise in wildlife disease management, with significant contributions to understanding tuberculosis transmission in social mammals, chemical restraint protocols for big cats, and standardized methodologies for analyzing wildlife health data across zoological institutions.
