Thomas Arzberger

Thomas Arzberger is a Clinical Professor and Consultant Neuropathologist at the Center of Neuropathology and Prion Research, Faculty of Medicine, Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich (LMU Munich). His research focuses on post-mortem histological and immunohistochemical analysis of psychiatric and neurodegenerative disorders.

His primary research interests include:

• Neuropathology of schizophrenia and frontotemporal lobar degeneration
• Motor neuron diseases (MND-TDP, MND-FUS, MND-UPS) and C9ORF72 mutation cases
• Tauopathies including progressive supranuclear palsy, corticobasal degeneration, and Pick’s disease
• Multiple system atrophy and neurodegeneration with brain iron accumulation
• Alzheimer's disease and triplet repeat disorders
• Specialized human brain tissue dissection and neuropathological tissue characterization standards

Dr. Arzberger serves as coordinator of BrainNet Europe II and established the Munich brain bank for neuropsychiatric diseases in February 2014, demonstrating leadership in brain banking infrastructure and ethical frameworks for neuropathological research.
