Benjamin Ryskeldi-Falcon is a Researcher at the MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology, University of Cambridge. His work focuses on the molecular basis of protein assembly in neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s disease, frontotemporal lobar degeneration (FTLD), and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). Using high-resolution cryo-electron microscopy (cryo-EM), he investigates disease-specific amyloid conformers, including tau, TDP-43, and ANXA11 filaments, and their propagation mechanisms in brain networks.
- Key research themes: Protein misfolding, amyloid structures, cryo-EM methodology, selective neuronal vulnerability
- Collaborative studies with experts in neurogenetics and neuropathology
Recent publications highlight structural insights into tau propagation in Alzheimer’s disease, heteromeric amyloid formation in FTLD-TDP Type C, and TAF15 pathology in frontotemporal lobar degeneration. His work emphasizes the causal role of protein assemblies in inherited neurodegenerative disorders.
He maintains a personal research group at the MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology, combining structural and cell biology approaches to study molecular interactions between amyloid structures and brain cells.
