Thom Wier is an Associate Professor of Economics and Department Head in the Kelley College of Business and Professional Studies at Hardin-Simmons University (HSU). He holds a BBA and MBA in Economics from Texas Christian University (1988, 1989) and a Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Tennessee (1992), specializing in regional economic development and monetary theory.
His current research focuses on business decision-making methodologies, ethical considerations in business practices, and the theoretical underpinnings of economic complexity. Prior to joining HSU, Wier conducted impactful economic analyses, including market feasibility studies for an NFL team in Tennessee, service-sector role assessments in the Tennessee Valley economy, and economic impact evaluations for institutions like Northeastern State University and the Cherokee Nation.
Wier's expertise bridges academic research and practical consulting, emphasizing applied economics in regional development and institutional planning. His work integrates theoretical frameworks with real-world applications, particularly in quantifying economic impacts and strategic decision-making processes.
