Thiru Aravinthan

Professor Thiru Aravinthan is a Professor of Structural Engineering at the School of Engineering, University of Southern Queensland (UniSQ), affiliated with the Centre for Future Materials. He holds qualifications including BEng (Peradeniya), MEng and PhD (Saitama University, Japan). With over 30 years of experience, his expertise spans composites in civil engineering, structural rehabilitation, prestressed concrete, and innovative bridge design. He is a Chartered Professional Engineer, Fellow of Engineers Australia, and registered Professional Engineer in Oregon, USA.

• MEng in Engineering, Saitama University (Japan)
• PhD in Engineering, Saitama University (Japan)

Research Interests: Prof. Aravinthan focuses on advanced materials for construction, structural strengthening techniques, and pedagogical innovation in engineering education. His work includes development of composite clamps for pipeline repair (awarded JEC Europe 2014), geopolymer concrete applications, and externally post-tensioned bridge systems. He actively contributes to professional bodies like Engineers Australia, Composite Australia, and the International Institute for FRP in Construction.
