Thierry de Duve is the Evelyn Kranes Kossak Professor in the Department of Art and Art History at Hunter College, City University of New York (CUNY), and holds the title of Professor Emeritus from Université de Lille 3. His academic work bridges the fields of art history, philosophy of art, and aesthetics, with a focus on modern and contemporary art practices.
Research interests include conceptual art, the legacy of Marcel Duchamp, and critical analyses of art theory and criticism. His scholarship often interrogates the intersections of art, philosophy, and cultural discourse, contributing to debates on artistic modernity and institutional frameworks.
De Duve has received notable fellowships and visiting appointments, including the William C. Seitz Senior Fellowship at the Center for Advanced Study in the Visual Arts (CASVA) and the Kirk Varnedoe Visiting Professorship at New York University’s Institute of Fine Art. These honors reflect his influence in visual arts research and pedagogy.
