Thiago Felipe Alves Pinto is a Departmental Lecturer in Legal Studies and Diplomatic Studies and Director of Studies in Religion and Theology at the Department for Continuing Education (Conted) and DPhil in Law at the University of Oxford. He is also affiliated with St Peter's College. His academic career includes roles as a Graduate Teaching Assistant and Tutor in Human Rights Law at Oxford, spanning 2015 to 2020.
Thiago holds an LLB (Hons.) from Centro Universitário Curitiba (Brazil), a Master's in International Human Rights Law from Åbo Akademi University (Finland) (eximia cum laude approbatur), and is completing a DPhil in Law at Oxford, focusing on offence to religious belief in international human rights law.
Research Interests: Thiago's work bridges human rights law, law and religion, and public international law, with a focus on blasphemy, apostasy, and censorship of religious expression. He actively engages with organizations like the UN Special Rapporteur on Freedom of Religion or Belief, UNESCO, and the International Panel of Parliamentarians for Freedom of Religion or Belief.
Affiliations & Activities: He contributes to the Public International Law Research Group, Oxford Human Rights Hub, and is an Academic Affiliate of the Bonavero Institute of Human Rights. Thiago has taught at Oxford and conducted research at the Bonavero Institute and the Oslo Coalition on Freedom of Religion or Belief.
