Theoklis Zaoutis is a Professor of Pediatrics and Professor of Epidemiology at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine, with a secondary role as Visiting Associate Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Athens School of Medicine. He holds leadership positions, including Director of the Antimicrobial Stewardship Program at The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) and Scientific Director of the Collaborative Center for Clinical Epidemiology and Outcomes Research (CLEO). His academic qualifications include an MD from Jefferson Medical College and a PhD in Medicine from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens.
His research focuses on pediatric infectious diseases, antimicrobial stewardship, and clinical epidemiology, with emphasis on antibiotic use, fungal infections, and outcomes research. He has authored influential studies on vaccine policies, antibiotic resistance, and pediatric infection management. His contributions have been recognized through awards such as the Pediatric Infectious Diseases Society Distinguished Service Award and the Thomas Frederick McNair Scott Endowed Chair in Pediatrics.
Zaoutis actively participates in global initiatives, including the PENTA Foundation as Chief Scientific Officer, and chairs committees for organizations like ESPID and the World Society of Pediatric Infectious Diseases. His work integrates clinical practice, policy, and education, with a focus on improving pediatric healthcare outcomes.
