- Rockefeller Fellowship
- UNIMA Citation for Excellence in Puppetry

Professor Skipitares has established herself as a significant figure in contemporary performance art through international collaborations and site-specific projects that address pressing social issues. Her work with diverse populations, including projects at Rikers Island prison and with homeless communities at Gibb Mansion, demonstrates her commitment to art as a tool for social change. She has collaborated with prominent composers including Virgil Moorefield, Bobby Previte, Scott Johnson, and Sxip Shirey, creating works that integrate live music, film, video, and documentary texts into her distinctive performance style.
