Theo Bodewig

Prof. Dr. Theo Bodewig is a Professor of Law at Humboldt University of Berlin, holding the GRUR Endowed Chair for Civil Law, Intellectual Property Law, Patent Law, Commercial Law, and Comparative Law. He previously served as a Professor at LMU Munich (1998-2004) and held leadership roles at the Max Planck Institute for Foreign and International Patent, Copyright, and Competition Law. His academic career spans over four decades, including fellowships, visiting professorships at institutions like Stanford University and Santa Clara University, and judicial roles as a Judge at the Higher Regional Court of Munich (2002-2011).

Research focuses on intellectual property, antitrust law, European law (particularly new technologies), U.S. legal systems, and business ethics. Notable awards include his Max Planck Society fellowship (1975-1980), a doctorate summa cum laude with a Faculty Prize (1980), and habilitation (1996). His work bridges comparative law, innovation policy, and transnational legal harmonization.

Publications span books, essays, and commentaries, including Perspectives on Intellectual Property and Competition Law (2005) and contributions to GRUR International.
