The University of Adelaideمعرفی
Dr. Themis Carageorgos is a Research Fellow at the University of Adelaide's School of Chemical Engineering (under the Faculty of Sciences, Engineering and Technology), specializing in Petroleum and Mining Engineering. His academic journey includes a Chemical Engineering degree from Fluminense Federal University (Brazil, 1979) and a PhD in Mineral Resources Engineering from Imperial College London (1993). From 1999–2007, he served as an Associated Professor in Petroleum Engineering at North Fluminense State University (Brazil) before joining the University of Adelaide in 2008.
His research focuses on flow dynamics in porous media, particularly applications in CO2 sequestration, hydraulic fracturing, and unconventional energy resources. Key areas include colloidal detachment mechanisms, nanoparticle behavior in reservoirs, and formation damage mitigation. He has pioneered micro-flow visualization techniques and ion chromatography-based analysis for oilfield applications.
Publications (e.g., 2023 Particle Detachment, 2022 Micro-Proppants) reflect a trend toward advancing unconventional reservoir engineering through experimental and theoretical frameworks. He actively supervises postgraduate students in Masters/PhD programs, emphasizing cross-disciplinary approaches between geology, chemistry, and engineering.
Labs/Teams: Collaborates with University of Adelaide’s Petroleum Engineering Group and industry partners on geothermal energy and low-salinity waterflooding projects. No awards explicitly listed, but extensive grants and funding sustained via his research portfolio.
