Thelmo Alejandro Lu Chau

Thelmo Alejandro Lu Chau serves as a Permanent Labor Professor (equivalent to Associate Professor) in the Department of Chemical Engineering within the Faculty of Sciences at the University of Santiago de Compostela. His academic career centers on biotechnological applications in chemical engineering with strong environmental focus.

He earned his PhD from the University of Santiago de Compostela in 1999 with doctoral research titled Operational strategies to improve plasmid stability and expression in fermentations with recombinant yeasts, supervised by Dr. Juan Manuel Lema Rodicio and Dr. Enrique Roca Bordello. This foundational work established his expertise in microbial fermentation systems and genetic expression optimization.

Dr. Lu Chau's research primarily addresses Environmental Biotechnology challenges through advanced Fermentation Technology and Recombinant DNA methodologies. His work focuses on enhancing plasmid stability and protein expression in engineered yeast systems, contributing to sustainable bioprocess development for environmental applications. As a core member of BIOGROUP, he investigates biotechnological solutions for pollution control and resource recovery.

He actively contributes to the Environmental Biotechnology research ecosystem through the BIOGROUP team, which serves as his primary collaborative platform for advancing sustainable bioprocess engineering solutions.
