Thea Myrvang is a Doctoral Research Fellow at the Department of Criminology and Sociology of Law, Faculty of Law, University of Oslo. Her research is embedded within the CRIMKNOW project, which examines the impact of privatized knowledge production and digitalization on criminal justice, particularly in Norwegian courts.
Research Interests:

- Digitalisation in the Justice System
- Power and Knowledge Regimes
- Rule of Law and Democracy
- Policing and Society
- Sociology of Law
Her PhD project investigates how digital transformation in courts reshapes legal practices, knowledge formation, and power dynamics. Using qualitative methods such as interviews, court observations, and document analysis, she explores tensions between established judicial norms and emerging digital practices.
The recent publication reflects her focus on marginalized groups in the justice system, specifically individuals with cognitive disabilities. This aligns with broader concerns about equity, access to justice, and the ethical implications of technological integration in legal institutions.
Teaching:
- KRIM2101 - Fordypningsoppgave i kriminologi
- RSOS1801 - Innføring i rettssosiologi
Research Affiliations:
- Research Group on the Sociology of Law
- Thematic Group on Digital Criminology
- Thematic Group on Criminological Theory
Her work is supported by the Norwegian Research Council through the FRIPRO program (Project CRIMKNOW, No. 334953). She brings practical legal experience from her prior role as a senior advisor at Nord-Troms and Senja District Court, enriching her socio-legal research with institutional insight.
