Dr. Thanti Octavianti is a Senior Lecturer in Applied Geography at the University of the West of England. Her research focuses on flood resilience, water security measurement, and responsible AI in disaster risk reduction. She serves on the steering committee of the Household Water Insecurity Experiences Scale – Research Coalition Network (HWISE RCN) and is an editor for Water International.
- Education: PhD in Geography and the Environment from Oxford University (2019), MSc in Water Science, Policy, and Management from Oxford University (2014), BEng in Environmental Engineering from Universitas Indonesia (2011).
Her research explores socio-political dynamics of water infrastructure, including Jakarta’s 400-year flood policy evolution and its seawall megaproject. She investigates water security measurement methods and leads projects on AI ethics in disaster management.
Recent publications highlight interdisciplinary approaches to compound hydrological risks, climate-water interlinkages, and sustainable energy integration in Southeast Asia. Her work bridges engineering, environmental policy, and social sciences.
- Scientific Awards:
- 2015 & 2018 Graduate Academic Prize, Trinity College, Oxford
- Jardine Foundation Scholarships for MSc (2013–2014) and PhD (2015–2019)
