Marwa is a PhD Candidate in Geography at the University of Cambridge (2022–present) and concurrently holds an Assistant Professor position in the Department of International Relations at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), Indonesia. Her research focuses on contested water remunicipalization in Jakarta, integrating hydrosocial territories, scale analysis, and infrastructure dynamics. She previously served as Managing Director of UGM’s Global Engagement Office (2020–2022) and as a Research Associate at the Centre for World Trade Studies (2019–2022).
Marwa holds a BA in International Relations from UGM (2017, Cum Laude) and an MSc in Environment and Sustainable Development from University College London (2019, Distinction). Her academic trajectory includes a Chevening Scholarship (2018–2019) and the Jardine Foundation Scholarship (2021).
Her research interests span water governance, climate adaptation, energy transition, and political ecology, with a focus on Global South urban contexts. She actively contributes to interdisciplinary projects like Megashift Knowledge Repository and presents at international forums such as the Royal Geographical Society conference. Key publications include analyses of Jakarta’s water governance, hydrosocial equity, and urban infrastructure dynamics.
Marwa’s work bridges theoretical frameworks with policy advocacy, emphasizing socio-ecological justice in resource management. She has published in peer-reviewed journals like Geoforum and contributed op-eds to The Jakarta Post on energy justice and flood resilience.
