Dr. Thania Muñoz D. is an Associate Professor at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC), specializing in Latinx and Latin American literature and culture. She is a core faculty member in the INCC MA program and affiliate faculty in the Language, Literacy and Culture program and Gender + Women’s + Sexuality Studies. She founded and manages Latin@ Literatures – A Cultural and Literary Journal.

Her research interests center on the interplay between language politics, immigration narratives, and cultural memory. She examines how immigrant authors negotiate belonging across the Americas and challenges traditional academic frameworks through community-engaged scholarship. Recent work explores digital storytelling as a tool to dismantle hierarchical teaching models and amplify marginalized voices in Baltimore’s Latinx communities.
The articles highlight her commitment to Latinx and Latin American literary analysis, with a focus on intertextual encounters, memory mechanisms, and testimonio. Her work spans academic journals like Latin American Literary Review and MARLAS, as well as creative translations and digital narratives addressing border politics and diaspora experiences.
