Thania Acarón is a Lecturer in Arts, Health & Wellbeing at the University of South Wales, Faculty of Creative Industries. She leads courses in Performance and holds advanced certifications in Dance Movement Therapy (R-DMP/BC-DMT). Her PhD from the University of Aberdeen (2015) focused on dance’s role in violence prevention. She also holds a Master’s in Dance Education from NYU (2003) and clinical supervision certifications in the UK/US.
Research interests include embodied decision-making, LGBTQ+ therapeutic practice, and dance-based violence prevention. She founded The Body Hotel CIC (2020), a social enterprise offering DMP training and services. Acarón has taught in 10+ DMT programs globally and received awards including the Puerto Rico International Dance Festival Ambassador (2017) and Wales Diversity & Inclusion Award (2024).
Her work aligns with UN SDGs 3 (Good Health), 4 (Education), 5 (Gender Equality), and 10 (Reduced Inequalities). Current projects include the 2020-2025 Decision Making Through Movement & the Arts initiative exploring embodied cognition in decision processes.
