Dr. Thang Nam Do is a Research Fellow in the Zero-Carbon Energy for Asia-Pacific Grand Challenge Program at the Crawford School of Public Policy, ANU. His research focuses on climate change, energy transition, water governance, and sustainable cities, with a regional emphasis on Vietnam, the Mekong Delta, and Southeast Asia. He holds a PhD in Environmental Economics from ANU, alongside master's and bachelor's degrees in environmental fields.
Dr. Do has over 25 years of experience in Southeast Asia, including roles at the Vietnam Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, the Global Environment Facility (GEF), and ASEAN climate initiatives. He currently convenes UN energy transition roundtables and climate masterclasses for Vietnamese policymakers.
His research interests span energy transition pathways, carbon pricing mechanisms, cross-border electricity trade, and the water-energy-environment nexus. He has published extensively in journals like Energy Policy, Climate Policy, and Environment and Development Economics.
Dr. Do’s work integrates policy analysis with practical solutions, addressing challenges such as coal phase-out strategies, renewable energy expansion, and sustainable urban development. He collaborates on projects like the Zero Carbon Energy for Asia-Pacific Initiative and contributes to policy dialogues on climate action and energy governance.
