Thang Dao is a Senior Lecturer in Economics at the University of Roehampton's Roehampton Business School, affiliated with the Centre for Sustainability and Responsible Management. He holds a Ph.D. in Economics from CORE, Université catholique de Louvain (Belgium). His research focuses on Economic Growth & Development, Demographic Economics, and Environmental Economics, with current emphasis on anthropogenic tipping points in human-natural systems and climate change impacts on demographic transitions in vulnerable regions.
Key areas of investigation include the role of resource user heterogeneity in environmental degradation, population growth dynamics in Sub-Saharan Africa, and policy design for sustainability. He has conducted research across Asia (Japan, Vietnam) and Europe (Belgium, Germany, UK). Office hours are Thursdays 11:00-13:00, with flexible online/on-campus arrangements.
His scholarly contributions span fisheries economics, climate policy analysis, and gender education disparities. Notable work includes exploring price feedback mechanisms in resource management and the interplay between education gender gaps and demographic transitions in developing nations.
Recipient of the Osaka University Prize for outstanding young researcher (2021), his work bridges economic theory with real-world policy challenges, emphasizing sustainable development in climate-vulnerable regions.
