Dr. Thando Njovane is a Senior Lecturer at Rhodes University, specializing in trauma theory, political philosophy, and critical race theory. She holds a PhD from Rhodes University and is an Andrew Mellon early career scholar. Her research explores intersections of trauma, childhood, and postcolonial identities in African fiction.
She contributes to the Rhodes University Centre for Higher Education Research, Teaching and Learning (CHERTL) and the African Studies Centre, serving as a researcher, Early Career Officer, and Gender and Diversity Officer. Co-director of the transcontinental platform Finding Africa, her work addresses institutional reform and decolonization in South African higher education.
Selected publications include analyses of K. Sello Duiker, Yvonne Adhiambo Owuor, and Es’kia Mphahlele, with a focus on postcolonial narratives and racial trauma. She also engages in public scholarship via essays on Nnedi Okorafor and African speculative fiction.
