Thanattha Jantem

Thanattha Jantem serves as a Visiting Professor at the Faculty of Oriental Studies, VNU University of Social Sciences and Humanities. Originally from Thailand, they maintain a primary position at the Faculty of Humanities, Naresuan University, Thailand, while engaging in significant academic collaboration with Vietnamese institutions.

Their research expertise spans Vietnamese language studies, comparative linguistics, cognitive linguistics, and ethnolinguistics. Current scholarly efforts focus on the language of Tai ethnic groups in Vietnam, particularly plant nomenclature in the White Tai language of Mai Chau, Hoa Binh province. They are completing doctoral research under Professor Dr. Tran Tri Doi from the Faculty of Linguistics at VNU University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Hanoi.

Publications reveal a consistent research trajectory in cross-linguistic analysis of idiomatic expressions across Southeast Asian languages, with particular emphasis on plant terminology, color concepts, and weather-related expressions. Their comparative methodology examines linguistic structures across Vietnamese, Thai, and Indonesian languages, highlighting cultural-linguistic connections in the region.

At VNU-USSH, Jantem teaches Thai language for Thai Studies majors and mentors students through cultural projects including 'Thai Culture in Vietnam.' They actively participate in Thai New Year celebrations at the Hanoi Embassy and collaborate with the Hanoi-based Learning Thai Club. International engagement extends to cultural exchange programs with Vietnam Youth Academy, Hanoi University, and Phennika University.
