Tessa Madden

Tessa Madden is a Professor of Obstetrics, Gynecology, and Reproductive Sciences at Yale School of Medicine, serving as Chief of the Section of Family Planning and Director of the Complex Family Planning Fellowship. She previously held roles at Washington University in St. Louis, including Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology and Family Planning Division Director.

Education: MD from Washington University (2001), residency at New York Presbyterian Hospital-Columbia (2005), MPH in Epidemiology at Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health (2006), and fellowship in Family Planning at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine (2007).

Research focuses on improving contraceptive access and decision-making, with 70+ peer-reviewed publications. Her work emphasizes interventions to expand access to long-acting reversible contraception (LARC), telehealth counseling efficacy, and patient-centered care for complex cases such as uterine fibroids and second-trimester pregnancy complications. She mentors 30+ trainees annually and leads national initiatives in complex family planning.
