Tessa Charlesworth is an Assistant Professor and Drake Faculty Scholar in Management & Organizations at the Kellogg School of Management, Northwestern University. Her research focuses on understanding how social biases and attitudes evolve, particularly regarding prejudice reduction and the psychological and societal factors influencing belief change. She leads the Change Lab and collaborates on studies involving algorithmic bias and big data analysis.
Dr. Charlesworth earned a B.A. in Psychology from Columbia University and a Ph.D. in Social Psychology from Harvard University, where she received the Best Dissertation Award from the Federation of Associations in Behavioral and Brain Sciences. She held a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Toronto and Harvard University, supported by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada.
Her work has been featured in Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, Psychological Science, and popular media like Scientific American and Forbes. She advises the Smithsonian’s traveling exhibit on societal biases and contributes to initiatives promoting diversity and equity in academia.
Key research themes include stereotype evolution, implicit/explicit attitude relationships, and interventions to reduce stigma. She teaches courses on micro-organizational behavior and has been recognized with multiple Rising Star Awards from the Association for Psychological Science.
