Dr. Tess Reynolds is Deputy Director and Thoracic Theme Lead at the Image X Institute, University of Sydney. She holds the Cancer Institute of NSW Early Career Fellowship and is a Robinson Fellow. Her expertise lies in medical imaging physics, particularly in advancing interventional Cone Beam CT (CBCT) technologies for complex surgical scenarios. She leads projects like ACROBEAT and RMG-4DCBCT, focusing on cardiac and respiratory motion management, and collaborates internationally with institutions like Johns Hopkins University.
Reynolds completed her PhD at the University of Adelaide (2017) and has pioneered industry partnerships with Siemens Healthcare. Her research emphasizes reducing radiation exposure and improving imaging accuracy in oncology, cardiology, and orthopedics. She has secured grants totaling over $6M, including NHMRC Development and Synergy Grants for lung ventilation imaging and cardiac radiation protection.
She has been awarded the 2022 Eureka Prize for Outstanding Early Career Researcher and the 2021 Jack Fowler Award (AAPM). Her work spans over 50 peer-reviewed articles, with recent breakthroughs in adaptive imaging protocols and non-circular CBCT orbits for metal artifact reduction. Reynolds also contributes to clinical translation through open-source tools like SpyGRT for radiotherapy guidance.
