معرفی
Terry Van Gevelt is an Associate Professor of Urban Sustainability and Lee Kong Chian Fellow at the College of Integrative Studies, Singapore Management University (SMU). He holds a PhD in Environment and Development Studies from the University of Cambridge (2014), an MPhil in Development Studies (University of Cambridge, 2009), and a BSc (Hons) in Economics from the University of Warwick (2008).
His research focuses on bridging the sustainability science-policy divide, with a focus on climate change communication, urban resilience, and the socio-economic dimensions of sustainability challenges. He leads a S$1.49 million Climate Impact Science Research Programme (CISRP) grant funded by Singapore's National Environment Agency, examining how climate impacts are communicated to stakeholders and how technical solutions interact with broader institutional contexts.
Van Gevelt has published in top journals including Nature Climate Change and Global Environmental Change. His work spans transboundary environmental governance (e.g., marine emissions in Hong Kong/Shenzhen), indigenous climate perceptions in Malaysian Borneo, and the water-energy-food nexus. Recent research highlights the role of virtual simulations in climate risk communication and the spatial inequities of urban climate adaptation.
- Grants: Lead PI for CISRP Grant (S$1.49M, 2020–present)
- Labs/Teams: Affiliated with the SMU Urban Institute
