Terry L. Schalk is an Adjunct Professor of Physics at the University of California, Santa Cruz, affiliated with the Division of Physical & Biological Sciences. He served as Associate Dean for Computing from 2000 to 2008 and has been deeply involved in experimental particle physics, accelerator physics, and astrophysics over a 40-year career.
His research spans computational challenges in high-energy physics, including data analysis techniques, detector design, and software management for major projects like the LSST camera and GLAST space telescope. Collaborations include MarkIII, MarkII, SLD, BaBar, GLAST, and LSST.
Dr. Schalk's publications reflect long-term contributions to CP violation studies, charm quark experiments, and detector simulations. He has chaired the Computing in High Energy Physics conference and participated in major computing review committees.
Active in SCIPP's Outreach Program, he contributes to Tesla Coil demonstrations, Balloon Fest, Maker's Faire, and educational initiatives for high school students and teachers. His work combines cutting-edge research with community engagement.
