معرفی
Terri Fried, MD is the Humana Foundation Professor of Medicine (Geriatrics) and Section Chief of Geriatric Medicine at Yale School of Medicine. She has held these positions following her appointment to the Yale section of geriatrics in 1996 as a clinician investigator, after several years as a clinician-educator at Brown Medical School.
Dr. Fried completed her medical education at Harvard University (MD, 1988) and earned her BA in Biochemistry from Harvard-Radcliffe (1984). She completed her residency in Primary Care Internal Medicine at Rhode Island Hospital (1991) and fellowship training in geriatrics, ethics, and clinical effectiveness at Harvard Medical School (1993).
Her research program focuses on improving decision-making processes for older persons with advanced illness and multiple chronic conditions, with particular emphasis on elucidating patient preferences and advance care planning. Dr. Fried's work spans several critical areas of geriatric medicine including end-of-life care, dementia caregiving, palliative care utilization, and patient-centered approaches to managing complex health conditions in older adults. Her research employs diverse methodologies from qualitative investigations of decision-making processes to large-scale observational studies of health services utilization.
Analysis of Dr. Fried's recent publications (2024-2025) reveals several prominent research themes: 1) Advance care planning across diverse populations with attention to racial/ethnic disparities; 2) Optimization of care for patients with dementia and their caregivers; 3) Integration of palliative care services for patients with advanced conditions like heart failure; 4) Development and testing of patient priorities care models that align healthcare with individual goals; and 5) Decision-making processes in complex geriatric scenarios including antibiotic stewardship and feeding decisions.
