معرفی
Terri DeYoung is a Professor in the Department of Near Eastern Languages and Civilization at the University of Washington. Her research focuses on Arabic literature, cultural studies, and literary criticism with particular attention to modern Arabic poetry, translation studies, and historical narratives. She has published extensively on topics ranging from classical Arabic texts like Al-ʿIqd al-farīd to modern works such as Stranger Fictions: A History of the Novel in Arabic Translation.
DeYoung’s scholarship bridges historical and contemporary analyses, exploring themes like literary periodization, intertextuality, and cultural identity. Her work often engages with figures such as Ibn Hazm and Badr Shakir al-Sayyab, analyzing their contributions to Arabic literary traditions. Notable publications include studies on Palestinian memoirs, the influence of Graeco-Roman traditions on Arabic poetry, and the evolution of Arabic narrative discourse.
Her research also occasionally ventures into interdisciplinary areas, as seen in her 2022 article on psychopathology taxonomy, though this appears outside her primary disciplinary focus. DeYoung’s teaching and academic leadership reflect her commitment to advancing understanding of Middle Eastern cultural and literary heritage.
