Dr. Terrance J. Hadlington is a Research Fellow at the Technical University of Munich (TUM), leading the Chair of Inorganic Chemistry with Focus on New Materials under the TUM School of Natural Sciences. His research explores novel catalytic processes leveraging earth-abundant main group and transition metals.
- Education: MChem from the University of Bath (2011), PhD at Monash University (Australia) with Prof. Cameron Jones
Research focuses on non-innocent ligand systems (e.g., Single-Center ambiphiles, polyphosphinidenes) enabling cooperative catalysis with transition metals, particularly targeting ammonia activation and hydroamination of alkenes. His group investigates bond activation pathways and ligand-metal synergies for sustainable catalytic applications.
Recent publications highlight work in hydrogenation catalysis, dihydrogen activation, and ligand design across nickel, iron, and main-group metal complexes, reflecting trends in organometallic chemistry and sustainable catalytic mechanisms.
Scientific Awards
- ERC Starting Grant (2023)
- ADUC Prize (2023)
- BASF-Nachwuchpreis (2022)
- Boehringer Ingelheim Stiftung Exploration Grant (2022)
His research is supported by grants from the DFG, Boehringer Ingelheim Stiftung, and the Liebig Fellowship (FCI). The Hadlington Group operates at the forefront of main-group and transition-metal cooperative catalysis.
