Teri Anne Chettiar is an Associate Professor in the Department of History at the University of Illinois. Her research focuses on the history of human sciences, exploring how 20th-century understandings of mental and emotional health intersected with marginalized identities and social reform movements. She earned her Ph.D. in History from Northwestern University in 2013.
Her first book, The Intimate State: How Emotional Life Became Political in Welfare-State Britain (2022), examines British welfare-state initiatives that politicized emotional intimacy and monogamy.
