Terhi Utriainen is a Professor in the Study of Religions at the University of Helsinki's Faculty of Theology, with a Docent (Adjunct Professor) position in Gender Studies at the Faculty of Arts. Her research focuses on ethnography of lived religion, vernacular spirituality, ritual studies, religion and gender, and death studies. Her work appears on the LeNeRe research portal.
- Education: Completed a research period titled 'Learning from new religion and spirituality' (2019–2023)
- Projects: Leads the Kone Foundation project 'Kenen enkelit?' (2023–2026), explores post-secular society (2010–2014), and co-edited special issues on religious learning in Approaching Religion (2024, 2023)
Research Themes examine ritual learning (Orthodox Christianity), transreligious dynamics, angel spirituality in media, and connections between healing practices and religion. She contributes to discourse on new religious movements, gendered embodiment, and spirituality in modern life.
Scientific Awards include:

- Kalevalaseura's Kekri Prize for Outstanding Research (2023)
- Member of the Finnish Academy of Science and Letters (2021)
Advising and Publications encompass co-editing books with Transaction Publishers, Palgrave MacMillan, and Equinox. Supervises doctoral students in the Doctoral Programme in Theology and Religious Studies and serves on editorial boards for journals like Temenos and Approaching Religion.
