Teresa da Silva Lopes is a Professor of International Business and Business History at the University of York’s School for Business and Society, and Director of the Centre for the Evolution of Global Business and Institutions (CEGBI). She holds advanced degrees including a PhD from the University of Reading and postdoctoral experience at the University of Oxford. Her career includes roles at Queen Mary University of London, Universidade Católica Portuguesa, and visiting positions at institutions like Harvard Business School and the University of California Berkeley.
Her research focuses on international business history, globalisation, climate change impacts on business, and branding strategies. Notable works include Climate Change and Business: A Historical Perspective (2025) and The Routledge Companion to the Makers of Global Business (2019). She has received the Henrietta Larson Article Award (2007) and Cass Prize for Best Article (2002).
Prof. Lopes serves on editorial boards of journals like Business History and has held peer review roles for the ESRC and British Academy. Her recent articles explore historical case studies such as colonial trade dynamics and modern corporate strategies in climate adaptation. She advises on academic governance and teaches global business strategy at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
