Teresa Scheid is a full-time Professor in the Department of Sociology at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, with joint appointments in Public Policy, Public Health, and Health Services Research. Her work focuses on mental health service delivery, HIV/AIDS care integration, and community-based strategies for vulnerable populations. She holds a Ph.D. from North Carolina State University.
Her research interests include medical sociology, sociological theory, complex organizations, and ideology in healthcare. Key publications include books such as *Ties That Enable* (2021), *Comprehensive Care for HIV/AIDS* (2015), and *Tie a Knot and Hang On* (2004). She co-edited the *Handbook for the Study of Mental Health* (2017) and *Handbook for the Sociology of Mental Health* (2010).
Her studies explore institutional demands in mental health policy, community solidarity for individuals with serious mental illness, and the intersection of healthcare systems with minority groups. She has also researched the mental health consequences of HIV/AIDS and integrated care models for HIV-positive individuals.
