Deborah Beete is a Senior Lecturer and Director of the Master of Public Health (MPH) Program at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, within the College of Health and Human Services (CHHS). She holds a BA in Sociology, an MPH in Sociomedical Sciences from Columbia University, and a Master of Divinity (MDiv) from McCormick Theological Seminary. Her career spans over 20 years in public health practice, focusing on program implementation, evaluation, and grant writing. She transitioned to full-time academia in 2018, initially teaching undergraduate courses in Public Health and Health Systems Management before dedicating herself fully to MPH program responsibilities.
Her research interests include public health pedagogy, HIV/AIDS prevention, sexual health advocacy, and curriculum development. She has taught courses such as Case Studies in Public Health, MPH Internship, and Foundations of Public Health. Notably, she received the 2023 UNC Charlotte Award for Teaching Excellence.
