Teresa Gilliams is a Professor of English at Albright College, specializing in 20th and 21st-century African American Literature. She holds a Ph.D. from Howard University and has been recognized with awards such as the Lindback Distinguished Teaching Award (2010) and the Ford Foundation Postdoctoral Fellowship (2002). Her research focuses on African American literature, black feminisms, and intersectional studies of race. She teaches courses including African American Literature, Black Women Writers, and Hip Hop Studies.
Key contributions include publications like *Temper Your Rhetoric* (2017) and *Engaged Pedagogy in the Harlem Renaissance Classroom* (2015). She advises student research projects, such as Emily Curley’s work on Japanese-American post-WWI othering and Kyle Bernadyn’s analysis of Kendrick Lamar’s literary canon inclusion. Gilliams has led initiatives like Albright’s Honors and Awards Committee since 2012 and served as a Fulbright Scholar in Greece (2011–2012).
