Teresa Fanego

Teresa Fanego is a Full Professor of English Language and Linguistics at the University of Santiago de Compostela since 1990. Her academic career includes roles as Associate Professor (1984-1990) and Lecturer (1976-1984) at the same institution. She holds a PhD in English Linguistics (1978) and an MA in Germanic Philology (1971), with a 1975-1976 research stay at University College London.

Research focuses on historical linguistics, corpus-based studies, grammaticalization, and Shakespearean grammar. She coordinates the Inter-university Master in Advanced English Studies since 2016 and led the Research Unit for Variation, Linguistic Change and Grammaticalization since 1990. Her work involves international collaborations including projects with KU Leuven and Edinburgh University.

Notable awards include six 'sexenios' (highest Spanish research assessment), the 2016 American Publishers Excellence Award for co-authored The Cambridge Guide to the Worlds of Shakespeare, and the 2017 Galician Research Award. She has supervised 22 doctoral students, many of whom hold academic positions globally.
