Teresa Dawson is a Professor of Geography at the University of Victoria (UVic), where she specializes in geography pedagogy, feminist geographies, and community-based learning. She formerly served as the Director of UVic's Learning and Teaching Centre, driving institutional change in teaching and learning practices.
Education: Teresa holds a BA (Hons) and MA from the University of Oxford (Oxon.) and an additional MA from McMaster University.
Research Interests: Her work focuses on:
- Effective teaching assessment and curricular reform
- Scholarship of teaching and learning (SoTL)
- Enhancing diversity and accessibility in higher education
- Academic program design and student experience (e.g., first-year transition, capstones)
- Mentoring new faculty and graduate students
She is a lead author of Teaching College Geography: A Practical Guide for Graduate Students and Early Career Faculty (2009, Prentice Hall) and co-editor of Teaching and Learning Community-Based Research: From Pedagogy to Practice (2014, University of Toronto Press). She co-founded the Vancouver Educational Developers Alliance (VIEDA) in 2007 and served as Chair of the Educational Developers Caucus and a Board Member of the Society for Teaching and Learning in Higher Education (STLHE) for 10 years.
Teaching: Teresa teaches courses such as Introduction to Human Geography, Community Mapping, and Personal Space: Exploring Geographies of Gender, Sex, and Identity.
