Temple Burling is a Lecturer at Carthage College, serving as Primary Instructor for the HHMI-funded SEA-PHAGES program since Fall 2016. He teaches multiple sections of BIO1110, an introductory biology course centered on authentic phage discovery research.
His expertise spans:

Over 9 academic years (2016-2024), Dr. Burling has instructed 11 sections totaling 225+ freshmen in hands-on phage isolation using Microbacterium foliorum and Mycobacterium smegmatis hosts. Each 7-hour/week laboratory course follows the SEA-PHAGES curriculum for bacteriophage characterization and genomic analysis.
He actively participates in the national SEA community, contributing to workshops and symposia that advance undergraduate research in genomics and evolutionary science.
