Ted Vallance is a Professor at the University of Roehampton, holding roles as Dean of Research and Doctoral Study. He previously served as Director of the Graduate School (2016–2023) and Reader in Early Modern History (2009). Educated at Balliol College, Oxford (D.Phil.), he also held positions at the Universities of Sheffield, Manchester, and Liverpool.
His research focuses on 17th-century England’s political and religious history, particularly radical movements during the civil wars and 1688 revolution. Key interests include allegiance debates, public opinion formation, and the memory of revolutions. He leads the AHRC-funded 'Inclusive Histories' project, enhancing GCSE history education.
Recent publications analyze the trial of Charles I, emphasizing witness testimony and manuscript provenance. He has contributed to BBC historical documentaries and collaborates with museums/archives. Awards include a Huntington Library Fellowship and Royal Historical Society Fellowship.
Supervises PhD topics on early modern history, including witchcraft in Lancashire and visual language of kingship. Teaches 'Radicalism in the English Revolution' at the undergraduate level.
