Ted Norris is a Professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at the University of Michigan, College of Engineering. He serves as the Gérard A. Mourou Professor of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science and is the Director of the Center for Photonic and Multiscale Nanomaterials (C-PHOM) and the Optics and Photonics Laboratory. His research spans ultrafast optical techniques, semiconductor nanostructures, and biomedical imaging, with a focus on developing novel measurement methods and applications.
- Current Roles: Professor, Director (C-PHOM, Optics and Photonics Laboratory)
- Research Themes: Ultrafast optics, THz generation, quantum dots, adaptive optics, and nanotechnology
His group has pioneered high-speed carrier transport studies in semiconductors, phonon bottleneck observations in quantum dots, and terahertz imaging techniques. Collaborations include the Solid State Electronics Lab at Michigan and international teams working on advanced semiconductor devices.
Recent courses taught include Introduction to Circuits (EECS 215), Electromagnetics I (EECS 230), Principles of Optics (EECS 334), Classical Optics (EECS 537), Lasers (EECS 539), and Ultrafast Optics (EECS 546). His lab explores applications such as cancer therapeutics using dendrimer complexes and time-reversal techniques for imaging.
