Ted Magder is an Associate Professor in the Department of Media, Culture, and Communication at New York University's Steinhardt School of Culture, Education and Human Development. He also serves as Special Advisor for Policy, Strategy, and Innovation. Previously, he held roles including Vice Dean for Academic Affairs (2015-2019) overseeing global academic programs, and visiting scholar positions at the University of Amsterdam and University of Toronto. His research focuses on legal/regulatory frameworks affecting transnational media and cultural flows.

Magder's scholarship examines international agreements like the UNESCO Convention, WTO disputes involving cultural trade, and media history. His book Canada’s Hollywood analyzes Canadian state influence on film. He has received multiple teaching honors including NYU's 2012 University Distinguished Teaching Award.
Recent work explores globalization's impact on media through frameworks combining political economy and cultural studies. He advises UN television policy initiatives and contributes to NYU's global academic strategy development.
