معرفی
Ted Donchev is an Associate Professor in Structural Engineering at Kingston University's School of Built Environment and Geography, specializing in advanced technologies in structural engineering. With over 20 years of academic experience and 10 years in industry, he is a Chartered Structural Engineer and Fellow of the Institution of Structural Engineers (IStructE) and the Higher Education Academy.
- PhD in Structural Engineering (1996-1999), University of Architecture, Civil Engineering and Geodesy, Sofia
- MEng in Civil Engineering with specialization in Transportation Engineering (Roads and Bridges) from UACEG, Sofia (1981-1986)
- Postgraduate Certificate in Teaching & Learning in Higher Education (2006-2007), Kingston University
His research focuses on Fiber-Reinforced Polymer (FRP) reinforcement for concrete structures, hybrid steel/FRP shear walls, fire resistance of structural elements, and Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) applications. He has developed innovative solutions for prestressing with FRP, retrofitting damaged structures, and assessing sustainability of alternative reinforcement materials.
His publications highlight trends in FRP reinforcement, fire safety engineering, and structural rehabilitation. He has contributed to journals like Engineering Structures, Composites for Construction, and Construction and Building Materials, with over 100 global conference and journal papers.
Scientific Awards:
- Fellow of the Institution of Structural Engineers (IStructE)
- Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (HEA)
As Course Leader for Structural Design and Construction Management MSc programs, he supervised 10 PhD students to completion and currently supervises 5 more. He chairs the Editorial Board of the Forensic Engineering Journal (ICE) and serves on technical committees for international conferences.
His laboratory work includes testing FRP-concrete bond behavior under thermal stress, NDT applications, and hybrid structural systems for seismic resilience. Current projects involve upgrading existing structures with Ultra-High Performance Concrete (UHPC) materials and analyzing prestress losses in FRP-reinforced beams.
