Ted Beatty is a Professor of History and Global Affairs at the Keough School of Global Affairs, University of Notre Dame. His research focuses on the intersection of economic development, institutional history, technological change, and policy formation in Latin America, particularly Mexico.

Beatty’s scholarly work examines the role of institutions in industrialization, the history of technological innovation, and the intellectual and material bases of policy formation. He has led significant research initiatives funded by the National Science Foundation and collaborated with institutions like the Universidad de Salamanca and the Kellogg Institute for International Studies.
His recent publications highlight global engineering practices and patent law evolution in Mexico. Beatty’s 2023 article with Israel G. Solares explores corporate management and engineering dynamics (1870–1930), while his 2020 contribution analyzes patent law harmonization in historical perspective.

Beatty has received research support from the National Science Foundation, the Instituto de Iberoamérica at the Universidad de Salamanca, and the Kellogg Institute for International Studies. He held leadership roles at Notre Dame, including interim director of the Kellogg Institute (2007–2009) and associate dean for academic affairs in the Keough School (2015–2023). His work bridges historical analysis and contemporary development studies, emphasizing technological capabilities and institutional frameworks.
