Alejandro Estefan is an Assistant Professor of Development Economics at the Keough School of Global Affairs, University of Notre Dame. He has been a Kellogg Institute faculty fellow since 2019 and collaborates with multilateral agencies like the World Bank, as well as local governments in Mexico and Colombia.
- Education: Master in Public Policy (University of Chicago), PhD in Economics (University College London)
His research focuses on human development, labor economics, public finance, and macroeconomic policy in Latin America. Key areas include poverty reduction, gender violence, female labor market participation, state capacity, and tax revenue collection. His methodological approach emphasizes rigorous econometric analysis of social policies.
Estefan’s recent publications include experimental studies on digital training for micro-entrepreneurs in Guatemala (2023) and analyses of property taxation, labor markets, and crime in Mexico. His work addresses critical intersections of economic policy, governance, and inequality.
