Tayler Catherine Kent is an Associate Lecturer in Pharmacology and Toxicology at Murdoch University's School of Medical, Molecular and Forensic Sciences within the College of Environmental and Life Sciences. She also serves as a Theriogenology Technologist/Casual Academic in the School of Veterinary Medicine at Murdoch University and holds a Visiting Researcher position at The University of Western Australia. Her research focuses on the pharmacological and toxicological effects of herbal supplements on reproductive health, particularly in sperm function and livestock fertility.
Education: BSc (Hons) and Honours in Molecular Biology from Murdoch University (2011–2016). Thesis: 'Effect of ginseng extract on sperm characteristics in Merino rams.'
Research Interests: Investigates herbal supplements' impact on sperm viability using ram models, metabolomics, and biochemical assays. Current projects include phytoestrogen endocrine disruption, sex ratio determination in ram sperm, and antibacterial resistance in dairy cows. Uses flow cytometry, GCMS, ELISA, and CASA techniques.
Collaborations: Working with The University of Adelaide on herbal-alcohol polypharmacy and with the Australian National Phenome Centre on Garcinia gummi-gutta supplements. Supervises veterinary, masters, and honours students on topics like antioxidant roles in semen and sperm metabolomics.
