Dr. Taufik Valiante is Professor of Surgery at the University of Toronto with cross-appointments in Electrical Engineering and Biomedical Engineering. He directs the Surgical Epilepsy Program at Toronto Western Hospital's Krembil Brain Institute and holds the Gerry and Tootsie Halbert Chair in Neural Repair and Regeneration. His research develops neurotechnological interventions for epilepsy and neurodegenerative disorders through electrophysiological exploration of human cortical circuits.
Research integrates:
- Neuromodulation device development
- Neural circuit interrogation techniques
- Translational neuroengineering
Recent publications focus on neural heterogeneity mechanisms, epileptogenic network dynamics, and cortical pyramidal neuron biophysics. Article trends reveal emphasis on computational neuroscience and therapeutic neurotechnology development.
Honors include the endowed Halbert Chair recognizing contributions to neural regeneration research. Grant leadership includes $3M+ funding from Weston Foundation and CIHR for Parkinson's and epilepsy studies.
Founded interdisciplinary centers: Max Planck-University of Toronto Centre for Neural Science, CRANIA Neurotechnological Institute, and the Neuromodulation Institute.
