Dr. Alexander Rotenberg is an Associate Professor of Neurology at Harvard Medical School, leading research at Boston Children's Hospital focused on novel therapies for epilepsy and traumatic brain injury. His laboratory develops neuromodulation techniques including transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) and transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) to suppress seizures and promote neurorecovery.
Research interests center on neuromodulation mechanisms, traumatic brain injury sequelae, and antiepileptogenic drug development. His team utilizes rodent models, zebrafish, and clinical trials to study neural circuit plasticity and optimize noninvasive stimulation protocols.
Publication analysis shows consistent focus on three domains: 1) Neurostimulation mechanisms in seizure control, 2) Post-traumatic epilepsy biomarkers, and 3) Genetic epilepsy model characterization. Recent work emphasizes circadian influences on seizure susceptibility and therapeutic timing.
Scientific Awards:
- 2016 Dreifuss-Penry Epilepsy Award from American Academy of Neurology
He directs translational studies on brain stimulation and leads the hospital's neuromodulation therapy program, with active collaborations in neuroengineering and pediatric neurology.
