Dr. Tatiana Joseph is an Associate Professor and Program Director in the Teaching and Learning department at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. She leads the Second Language Acquisition Program and directs the English as a Second Language Education and World Language Education programs. Her work bridges research, teaching, and advocacy to promote equitable education for multilingual learners.
Her research focuses on language acquisition, culturally sustaining pedagogy, anti-racist education, and curriculum development, driven by a commitment to social justice and empowerment of marginalized communities. She serves as Principal Investigator for the federally funded grant 'Preparing Inclusive Early Childhood Education,' which emphasizes inclusive practices for diverse learners.
Dr. Joseph actively contributes to community education through her role as a School Board Director for Milwaukee Public Schools, advocating for high-quality, inclusive education in her hometown. Her personal background as a 1.5-generation immigrant and former English Language Learner deeply informs her advocacy for language rights and equity in education systems.
